Extra Bliss : Love is in the air…...

Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth

As John Paul Young sang "love is in the air, everywhere I look around". Even though I don't get caught up in the whole commercial side to the day, it is delightful to see people pay more attention to the emotion of LOVE. My husband and I decided fairly early into our marriage that we wouldn't go over the top on Valentines day and buy an expansive gift just for the sake of the day. Nor would we pay an exorbitant cost for the privilege of having a 'special meal' in a packed restaurant where we were sitting closer to the couple next to us then each other.

Paris 1957

We do however, acknowledge the day in our own unique way. It has taken many different forms over the years such as; our favourite eat at home meal, a random and sometimes corny love note left for each other, some special indulgent baking, catching a movie together, reminiscing over some favourite old music tunes or just generally making the time to be in each others company with a view to making the other feel special. It's amazing how 'creative' you can be when you take out the idea of spending big. For me, love is more than just Valentines Day, it is all the little things that often go unnoticed but accumulate to make me feel adored;

Clark Gable and the love of his life, Carole Lombard

Like the way he stands by my side, but doesn't overcrowd me,

Gene Kelly And Rita Hayworth

The comfort of his gentle embrace,

Douglas Fairbanks Jnr and Joan Crawford

The way he supports me,

So cute

Just how practical he is and always willing to be my man Friday,

Paris

That he will kiss me in public,

The Artist
The way he makes me laugh,

Paris 1960
The fact we can enjoy a latte together while perusing fashion magazines at our favourite cafe,

Salvador and Gala Dali
That we stick together even when we feel a little crazy,

Paris, Our Dream
And that he sent me this image with a note saying that one day we will visit here. Whatever form your Valentines Day takes, I hope you feel adored and special.
