Moments Of Bliss : A community full of spirit

I love living in Noosa! and there are many reasons why. One of them being the amount of events held in our beautiful town that encourage a fabulous community spirit where locals have the chance to share our charming home with visitors from all over the country and indeed the world. This last weekend saw the 30th annual Noosa Triathlon. Being the last event for the 2012 season Noosa welcomed 10,000 energetic competitors to the event which had the support of many locals who came out to volunteer and help make it a fantastic success.

Hubby, the two juniors and I were fortunate enough to have the honour of being some of those volunteers. Our son, Master T is a member of the Noosa Navy Cadets who formed a team of volunteers made up of cadets, their families and friends to man one of the main hydration stations. We had a Scottish pipe band and a local high school jazz band take it in turns to entertain the runners on their way which seemed to be greatly appreciated.

The event drew everyone from Olympic athletes to first time competitors giving it their all to achieve their own personal goals. Every single one of them is a champion in my book. What made the event really special was the amount of competitors who after a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and at the end of a 10km run still had the energy to be polite and thank us volunteers as they ran past or collected their refreshment. Many even made a particular point of taking their refreshments from the juniors so they could thank them for helping. It was such a pleasure to have this positive and thankful interaction and completely took me by surprise.

I was so proud of my family. The juniors enthusiastically worked just as hard as the adults from early morning till the afternoon. They were on a high knowing they were contributing to the amazing community spirit that is so strong here in Noosa. Do you have a community event that you like to contribute too? or is it something you have thought about doing? It is a beautiful way to feel connected to your community and I'm sure you will meet some fantastic people in the process. You should give it a go if you haven't already done so.
