Design Bliss : Immersed in my Mood Board

My Mood board for Ocean Bliss

Have you ever attempted a mood board before? Designers use them all the time to develop ideas and reflect a visual guide to follow whilst their work evolves. I have accomplished the odd collage over the years but have never assembled one or focused my attention on an actual mood board.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the exercise. Starting out with a few bits and pieces I quickly became a complete bower bird trying to stack all of my special treasures into one sacred space. I actually had to cull my wares as there was far too much going on and I literally couldn't fit the complete mood board into my camera frame to document it.

The end result is the one above. I find it interesting to look at what made it onto the final board as apposed to being removed. Creating mood boards really are an opportunity to take a fascinating look at what your attention is being drawn to and how you are reflecting it. This current board certainly helped me discover my creative focus and how to use it productivly.

So, give it a go if you haven't done one before and if you have, do another one and take stock of what is grabbing your attention at the moment. I guarantee it will inspire you and you may even be surprised by the result.
